Esteban Santamaria

Esteban Santamaria is a Mexican lawyer with experience at the national and international level, mainly in the field of intellectual property and its relation with other areas. He is a partner since 2010 and founder of SADIMAVI, IP law firm mainly working on IP, advising national and foreign clients, providing services in Mexico and abroad.

He holds a Master Degree in Intellectual Property Law from The George Washington University. For this program, he received the prestigious Fulbright scholarship. Also, he graduated first in class for his Master Degree in Mexico from the Universidad Autonoma de Puebla, and also obtained the highest recognition granted by the University (Cum laude). He bachelor in Law is from the Universidad Autonoma de Puebla too.

Besides working at SADIMAVI, he works as the expert advisor for the Inter American Development Bank on intellectual property. He conducts the research to identify challenges that the intellectual property is facing in Latin America and the Caribbean. The research is in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization. This project represents a relevant input in favor of the IP in LAC.

His Master Thesis was awarded as the best in the country by winning a national contest organized by the Mexican Ministry of Education and the Copyright National Institute, which recognized the best research in the country in terms of copyright and intellectual property.

He was selected to participate in the headquarters of important organizations representing Mexico and Latin America, in different activities. Those institutions include the World Intellectual Property Organization, the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants, also the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and the Mexican Industrial Property Office.

As a lecturer, he received invitations to participate in Mexico and abroad in places such as Guatemala (Invitation from the Government of Guatemala and the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants); the Mexican Export-Promotion Office at the United States of America; the World Bank (DC headquarters), among others.

Back in Mexico, in 2015 he founded in collaboration with another Fulbright scholar, a think tank (CAIINNO) focused in applying the innovation to resolve problems in Mexico, seeking the generation of a positive change in the country and share all the knowledge they got during their studies in the USA. Some achievements of the think tank are that the Government is using the National Index on Science, Technology, and Innovation developed by CAIINNO, as the official source. Most recent, CAIINNO was one of the winners of the “Alumni Engagement Innovation Found 2017”, an international competition organized by the State Department of the United States of America.

Hector Cornejo

Lawyer by the Autonomous University of Mexico who worked as Divisional Subdirector of Distinctive Signs A in the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI), before entering the firm and after 14 years of working in that institution.

He has studies and experience abroad, highlighting his time at the Office of Harmonization of the Internal Market, in Spain, as well as his participation in the International Visitor Leadership Program, held at the United States Department of State.

He also has several courses with the World Intellectual Property Organization, where as part of his duties he made several visits to his headquarters in Switzerland, as part of the team of Mexican experts.

He has participated as a speaker and professor in various national and international forums representing Mexico. The Preparatory Meeting of Experts of High Level of Intellectual Property, Innovation and Economic Development of Central American Countries, carried out by the Government of El Salvador, together with the World Intellectual Property Organization, stand out.

He has also been invited to participate in the Master of Business Law. Anahuac Mayab University, also in the Intellectual Property Diploma. Autonomous University of Queretaro.
